#WODoftheWEEK 4.17.2017 "Marathon Monday"
So, the 121st Boston Marathon happened yesterday and fun fact: I've never been....until yesterday.
I've only "lived" in Boston for three years, but grew up in New England, so the Marathon is nothing strange. In fact, I used to watch it on TV as a kid, but yesterday marked my first time going down to it (girlfriend's sister was running it) and I was in awe of the attitude of everyone in Boston yesterday. It was electric. Everyone was in full swing, cheering, encouraging and rooting for over 32,000 strangers representing 94 countries.
Again, everyone was in a good mood and it was amazing to watch people push through the last turn onto Boylston St. (at the corner of Hereford St. and Boylston). I saw vets with missing limbs, family members pushing loved ones in wheelchairs and just about every other motivating factor you could think of.
Oh man, what a day. Which brings me to the WOD of the WEEK. Everyone knows what happened at the Boston Marathon in 2013, so I'm not going to rehash it. Yesterday at my box, though, we did a hero WOD for everyone who was affected on 4-15-13. And CrossFit Southie had a crusher of a workout to ring in the remembrance for Marathon Monday.
Anyway, here's the workout. Do it memory of all the lives affected on April 15th, 2013 during the Boston bombing.
#WODoftheWEEK (25 min hard cap)
“Marathon Monday”
5 Rounds
4 Squat Clean and Jerks (185,125)
15 Chest to Bar Pull-ups
13 Burpee lateral jumps
After 5 rounds are complete:
800m run
*Your time is your total time for all 5 rounds plus the 800m sprint.
I was honestly pretty damn gassed after this whole thing and didn't have much in the tank at the end for the run. Do what you can with this. PACE IT, and do this workout wth some heart and for good reason. This was a TOUGH WOD. But a damn good one. Scale as needed.
Good luck, post your time to comments.
And in case you missed the highlights from the Marathon yesterday..
Write down your score, save this WOD of the WEEK for later and do this WOD with pride!
