Wisdom of the Week- Homemade Tostones

Hey ya'll!! Wisdom of the Week coming at you from the kitchen today! Myself, Marc, and Nolan are always on the hunt for new recipes to try. Marc's mother used to make tostones (fried plantains), so Marc walked us through this crowd favorite from his childhood...

  1. Cut one plantain into 1-inch chunks
  2. Heat 1-1.5 cups of olive oil in a sauce pan to medium high heat
  3. Fry plantains 1 minute each side, remove and squish with a flat surface, and return to the pan
  4. Fry 2 minutes each side; remove, pat with paper towel, and apply salt to taste...ENJOY!!

It's that easy...seriously! Plantains cost $0.50 at the local Big Y here in western Massachusetts, and they are rich in fiber, Potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B-6, and Magnesium. I'll save you the lecture, but these vitamins and minerals boost your immune system, help with digestion, relieve muscle aches/spasms, improve heart health, improve electrolyte balance, improve brain function, and WAY MORE!

We all get cravings, so next time you're craving a salty snack, get some nutritional benefit by making it yourself or with friends! Remember: because these are fried, you still need to control your serving size so you don't over-do it with fat consumption. All in all, have fun and ENJOY!

We still have a few spots left for Costa Rica in September, AND Costa Rica in February 2018, so check out the trip calendar and see where VoyEdge RX is going next!
