CROSSFIT GAMES UPDATE: WODAPALOOZA RECAP

This past weekend was host to one of the biggest Sanctional events of the year, the Wodapalooza Fitness Festival. A very talented field met in Miami to do battle through a wide range of events over the span of this 3-day competition.

In the end, it wasn't even close. Patrick Vellner and Tia Toomey each smashed the competition in their respective fields. Vellner and Toomey both got out to a hot start and never looked back, as both had the competition locked up far before the final event.

On the men's side, Travis Mayer finished 2nd and Noah Ohlsen 3rd. On the ladies side, Kari Pearce finished 2nd and Sara Sigmundsdottir finished 3rd. This is significant for several reasons. Obviously, Toomey and Vellner are both officially going back to the games, which is a lot of fun for the fans. Aside from that this is a big deal for all podium finishers.

Mayer has now made his chances for making the Games look very promising. As second place finisher, Mayer will receive an automatic bid if Vellner finishes as fittest in Canada OR top 20 in the open. Both of these are quite likely, increasing the chances of Mayer qualifying. The same can be said for Pearce. Assuming Toomey finishes top 20 in the open OR fittest in Australia, Pearce gets the nod.

One more important thing to note here, the top 5 finishers from both sides get an automatic bid to the Fittest in Cape Town competition, as well as the Brazil CrossFit Championship. Nobody has officially accepted these invites yet, but they have until Thursday to decide.
