CrossFit Games Update: The Future is Bright

Last week, Eric Roza shocked the world when he purchased CrossFit Inc from Greg Glassman, and setting a new course for the future of our community. I wrote about this last week, but now I want to focus on what I consider to be the most exciting part of all this: the future of the games.

After purchasing CrossFit, Roza and Dave Castro had a live zoom call to chat about the future of the company. Naturally, Castro asked about the future of the CrossFit Games. In a relatively brief response, Roza talked about how he believes the games have a big role to play in the CrossFit community. Specifically, he compared CrossFit’s potential as a sport to that of Iron Man, and the UFC. He believes that the Games are a positive thing to get eyes on our sport. In fact, he actually echoed something I wrote long ago- that top athletes, given the right platform, can have a very positive impact on getting people into boxes and trying out CrossFit.

THIS. IS. MASSIVE.

It was no secret Glassman hated the games, cutting much of their production teams and changing up the games to be less of a focus. Now, it appears as if it’s only a matter of time until Castro gets a huge green light to make the Games as big as he can. He’s never had this opportunity before. As a games fan, it’s wildly exciting.  I cannot wait to see what’s in store over the next few years. There will certainly be a lot of changes, and a lot of growth, for the competitor aspect of the sport.
