CROSSFIT GAMES UPDATE: TRANSGENDER ATHLETES
So this is a story that actually broke during the Games this past August, but it flew way under the radar so I figured why not bring it back.
CrossFit announced on August 3rd, 2018 that starting in the 2019 Games season, transgender athletes will be allowed to compete in the Games season, under whatever gender label to which they identify.
This is really, really cool stuff. Greg Glassman announced this personally, making a really heartwarming statement of support, “This is the right thing to do. CrossFit believes in the potential, capacity, and dignity of every athlete. We are proud of our LGBT community, including our transgender athletes, and we want you here with us". He went on to note that the rules will be updated to be unveiled in the official 2019 Games rulebook.
In a day and age where transgenders in physical competition is t times a controversial subject, I think it's super neat that CrossFit is opening their arms to all in a public display of acceptance. CrossFit is bigger than all the finite arguing and general political BS that flaw our world today. If you want to compete, compete, and reach the highest level you possibly can.
Well played CrossFit. I applaud you.
